Useful Bible Studies > 2 Kings Commentary > chapter 6
The king of Aram had tried to carry out a series of attacks against Israel. On each occasion, he sent his soldiers to a different place in Israel. Only he and his most important officials knew the place that he intended to attack.
However, each of these attacks failed. The king of Israel had sent his army to the place before the soldiers from Aram arrived. So, the soldiers from Aram were unable to establish their camp, as they intended. Instead, they simply returned home.
The king of Aram began to suspect that one of his officials was helping the king of Israel. In fact, the king of Aram became so angry that he began to accuse his officials. It seemed clear to him that one of them was not loyal to him. However, the failure of these attacks had upset them, too.
One of those officials knew that God was working very powerfully in Elisha’s life. Perhaps this was Naaman, whom God had cured in chapter 5. However, Naaman would probably have told other people about Elisha. Even in this foreign country, people were becoming aware of the wonderful things that God was doing in Elisha’s life. This official believed that Elisha was aware of even the king of Aram’s most secret conversations.
The king of Aram had already heard reports about Elisha (5:4). So, the king believed that Elisha was a man with great power in the spirit world. Clearly, while Elisha continued to help the king of Israel, the king of Aram’s attacks would not succeed.
