Useful Bible Studies > Hebrews Commentary > chapter 9
Christ did not die many times for people’s many sins (wrong and evil deeds) – Hebrews 9.25-26. He died once, even as all people die once. But his death was enough to free many people from the power of sin, death and the devil. His death was enough to save everyone who trusts him.
And these are the people who wait eagerly for his return. They expect him, even as servants expect their master to return (Mark 13:33-37). They do not know when he will return. But they are constantly ready.
God’s people very much want Christ to return. In fact, they need him to return. There are very many wrong things in this world. And they need him to rescue them, or in other words, to save them from those wrong things.
· Christ has already defeated the power of sin. But sin still upsets the lives of God’s people in this world. Sometimes it is their own sin. Sometimes it is other people’s sin. But Christ will return as king and judge. And then he will rescue his people from all sin. So they will be completely free from the power of sin, as he is.
· Christ’s death has also defeated the power of death. But God’s people still die. However, Christ’s return will change that. See 1 Corinthians chapter 15.
· And Christ also defeated the devil’s power (Hebrews 2:14-15). But the devil is still the enemy of God’s people. And still, the devil constantly causes trouble for them (1 Peter 5:8). But Christ will return. And then he will declare his judgement against the devil. And at last, the devil’s power will end (Revelation 20:2-3).
