EasyEnglish (2800 words)

Our books are in EasyEnglish. We feel that the use of simple English is very important to people who want to study the Bible. There are too many other books about the Bible which would be good and helpful - but the language is too difficult for today's typical reader. Even modern books tend to use old-fashioned English.

The EasyEnglish system was developed by Wycliffe Associates (UK). The basic idea was to develop a simple vocabulary and a restricted list of grammatical rules, so that readers will never encounter anything that is too difficult. The grammatical rules mean that the sentences are always simple: a maximum of 20 words, with no passives and a limited number of clauses.

For most of our books, we have used a 2800 word vocabulary. We think about the meanings of the words, as well as the actual word used. So you will not encounter a simple word that has a difficult meaning.

EasyEnglish may help people who are learning English, or people who use English as a second language. But we want people who use English as their first language or mother-tongue to benefit from these books too.

So really, the aim of EasyEnglish is to make the books clearer and more useful for everyone.
